AMOEBA HIGHBACK, 1969/1979 Verner PANTON

Year: 1969/1970

While the backrest of the Amoeba ends below the shoulders, the organically seeming seat back of the AMOEBA HIGHBACK stretches above the head of the sitter. This special form of design creates a space in the space and at the same time peruades security. As part of the legendary Visiona 2-exhibition in 1970, Verner Panton arranged the AMOEBAS atmospherically in the ambience of countless Ring Lamp. The ameba, the protozoon with variable figure, was the inspiration source. An organically seeming plastic bowl, integrated in a foamed plastic upholstery, specifies the form. From 1970 the upholstered furniture company Hukla in Baden Gengenbach and the French company Airborne International in Montreuilsous-Bois made the Amoeba series, indeed, without plastic core. Vitra makes the pieces of furniture as re-designs with even more comfortable back bowl since 2006 and 2008.
